Nagpur : A Driver of JCB was trapped underneath the machine after it overturned at Ajni Railway colony on Sunday night. The incident occurred at Drivers Training Centre, just besides Ajni RoB, where work is on to construct a shed. The work was on in pitch darkness and on Sunday and a local holiday, said eye witnesses. The injured driveris identified as Abhishek (27) and people who helped personnel of Fire and Emergency Services to pull him out said former is serious.

The driver's lower body portion, below the wait has been severely damaged,though he was breathing when he was pulled out from underneath the JCB. As per the statement of eye witnesses, around 8 pm the driver engaged in work by a contractor identified as Singh and other were engaged in work.

There was no lighting arrangement at spot nor the labourers were wearing any safety gear. A huge sound pierced the stillness of the area. People from nearby area shops came rushing to the spot only to find that the JCB had fallen into the ditch which is about eight feet deep. Someone among the crowd alerted Fire and Emergency Services and its personnel arrived within 15 minutes.

The emergency team took help from railway officials and got a huge crane from Ajni Electric Loco Shed that helped in rescue effort No senior railway official however visited the spot in aftermath of the mishap. The incident showcases the ugly face of privitisation in the Indian Railways, where workers and labourers are exploited.
