Nagpur : Government of Maharashtra has desired measures for long term traffic requirements of the city and engaged M/s RITES Ltd. (A Govt. of India Enterprise) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase II of Nagpur Metro. The proposed Phase II will include corridors in all directions - having a total additional length of about 48 Km with 33 stations. 

The preparation of DPR for Phase II corridors is being done as per new Metro Rail Policy of GOI and the same is in advance stage of completion. Most of the field studies including Traffic surveys, Topographical surveys & Geotechnical Investigations will be completed shortly. The corridors identified for Phase II of Nagpur Metro include: i. Automotive Square to Kanhan, 13 Km with 13 Stations. The corridor will cater to the areas of Khasara, Lekha Nagar, Kamptee, and Dragon Palace. ii. Khapri to MIDC ESR, 19 Km with 10 Stations. The corridor will have the catchment area of Jamtha, Dongargaon, Mohgaon, Butibori, MHADA colony, Indorama Colony. iii. Pardi to Transport Nagar, 4 Km with 3 Stations. The corridor will cater the vicinity of Ambe Nagar, Kapsi, Transport Nagar & Asoli. iv. Mount view, Hingna to Hingna Tehsil, 6 Km with 5 Stations. The corridor will pass through Nildoh, Gajanan Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Raipur, and Hingna Village including surrounding MIDC areas. v. Vasudev Nagar to Wadi, 6 Km with 2 Stations. Primarily the corridor will have the catchment of Raisoni College, surrounding MIDC area, Ordinance Factory colony & Wadi along Amravati Road. 

Phase II network will have a Ridership of about 3.5 Lakh passengers per day in the year 2041. Phase II corridor will also help in attracting about 1.1 Lakh additional passengers on Phase I network. 

The project will have suitable integration with other modes of transport at all important metro stations. Station plans will be prepared accordingly. Transit Oriented Development (TOD) will also be proposed along the corridors as per policy of Central and State Governments. The Phase II of Nagpur Metro is estimated to cost about Rs 11,000 Crores at present day price levels. Complete Phase II network is proposed to be elevated and it can be executed in 4 years after the project is sanctioned.  Nagpur Metro Phase I is progressing well. Phase I has two corridors of about 41 Km length with a total of 40 stations. Thus, the city and district will have a total metro network of about 89 Km with 73 stations once Phase II is sanctioned.
