Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will nominate for the post of President today (December 4) at 11 am, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be their proponents. In the presence of other senior Congress leaders including Sonia, Manmohan, Rahul will fill his nomination papers.

According to party sources, there was confusion among the Congress leaders about the involvement of the current president in the proponents of Rahul's candidature for the new party chief. However, sources have made it clear that Sonia will be the first proponent in the nomination papers to be filled by Rahul. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the main proponent of another nomination form. According to sources, 75 nomination papers will be filled in support of Rahul. Rahul has emerged as the sole candidate of the party for this post. It seems clear the way to become their president. He will replace Sonia Gandhi, who has been in the post for 19 years.

According to sources, Sonia, Manmohan will be signed as a proponent on the document, besides Ghulam Nabi Azad, AK Antony, P Chidambaram, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Ahmed Patel and Chief Ministers of Congress ruled states.

According to M. Ramachandran, Chairman of Central Election Authority of Congress, no one has filed nomination for this post till Sunday. State Unit Delegates have been given 90 nomination forms. There is not a single application yet. Monday is the last date for filing nominations. On Monday, Congress delegates from different states will be present at the party headquarters located at Akbar Road. He will submit documents related to the proposal of Rahul for the post of President.
