Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is offering various programmes for every section of the society and also making out efforts to reach various sections so that they can get benefit of this flexible education system. Some of the recent initiatives are as follows:

IGNOU is offering a 2 year MBA Degree with specialization in Human Resources, Financial, Operations, Marketing and Financial Market Practices. Eligibility for Admission is Any Graduate (including Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy, Company Secretaryship) with 50 % marks for General Category (45% for reserved category) and clearance of OPENMAT Exam conducted by IGNOU. In view of the globalization and increasing market economy, the need for MBA graduates is increasing. Common Man (including unemployed youth, low level workers and even housewives) desire to use this opportunity and have a bright future. To meet this aspiration of common man, IGNOU has relaxed the MBA admission eligibility like, employment criteria is withdrawn and the minimum duration is reduced to 2 years. There is no age bar for admission. IGNOU has students from 21 years to 78 years. The Prospectus is available for Rs. 1000 at Regional Centre and at all study centres. Last date to apply for Entrance Test is 11th August 2017.
Fee Exemption for Transgender:
Transgenders are one of the most neglected sections of the society, who are left, unattended by many. Most of them live in extreme poverty. The Supreme Court of India in April 2014 recognized them as a “Third Gender”. Education is seen both as an economic and empowering resource. Looking into the pathetic situation of transgender community, IGNOU has announced fee exemption to the transgender people in IGNOU Admissions. Along with Admission Form, they have to submit any certificate issued by the Central/State government/Medical Officer/Any other Competent Authority/Aadhar Card. The Nagpur Regional Centre is in consultation with various transgender groups and NGO’s so that these disadvantaged groups can get the benefit of this initiative. For Certificate courses last date is 15th July and for other courses it is 31st July. IGNOU is already offering fee exemption to other deprived sections like Prisoners, Weavers and SC/ST candidates for UG Programmes.
Gyan Ganga Awareness Meetings for Rural People:
Distance Education is suitable for rural people, house wives and many others who cannot spend whole time as a student.
