Nagpur : “MAHARASHTRA Governmentunder Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is making all efforts to stop farmers’suicides.Ithaslaunchedvariousschemesaimed at changing the lives of farmers and making available to them opportunities of additional income. The universities need to bring about a paradigm shiftinresearchtoproducegraduateswhocancontribute to improve lives of farmers,” said Mahadev Jankar, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries. Jankar was speaking after unveiling the plaque to mark bhoomipujan of the administrative building of Fisheries College, residential quarters, and the residence of Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) on Wednesday. Jankar alsoinaugurateda girls’ hostel constructed under Babu Jagjeevan Ram ChhatrawasYojana. Nanda Jichkar, Mayor; Dr Vikas Mahatme, Rajya Sabha Member; ProfAKMisra, the outgoingVice-Chancellor of MAFSU;D B Raut, Registrar; Dr Satale of Executive Council; and V C Vaidya were the guests on this occasion. Speakingontheoccasion,Jankar saidthatfinancial aid was being deposited directly in the bank accounts of beneficiaries under Raje Yashwantrao Holkar Sheli-Mendhipalan Yojana. This is resulting into a positive change in the life of beneficiaries.HesaidthattheGovernmentwasmakingefforts tostopfarmers’ suicidesbywayofvarious schemes including ‘Talav Tethe Masoli’ (fishery in every reservoir), goat and sheep rearing, farms with fodder, etc. The Minister appealed to the researchers, scientists, experts, Principal, Professors and students to contribute towards the cause of bringing about a positive change in the lives of farmers and common people. “You people are think-tank of universities. Your research can not only earn the status of a world-class institution for MAFSU but also changethelivesoffarmerspositively.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is extending all co-operation to researchers in this regard,” he said. After inaugurating the girls’ hostel, Jankar said that the girls were coming up very fast. If there are more admissions of girls in MAFSU, one more hostel would be constructed, he added. He asked the officials concerned to submit a proposal regarding training institute for farmers.Earlier,DrVikas Mahatme also expressed his thoughts. Jichkar also spoke on the occasion.Prof AKM is ramadeintroductoryremarks at the outset. Dr Atul Dhok conducted the proceedings of the programme.
