Nagpur : Now poor will be able to get cochlear implant surgeries free of cost at GMCH. The college has recently received approval from the centre under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aid or Appliances (ADIP) scheme to perform the surgery on children with disability. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has been pursuing the project since the past one year.

On October 3, 2016, GMCH Eye Nose Throat (ENT) Department head Dr Kalpana Dasgupta had proposed the project, which was forwarded to the centre by the college dean Dr Abhimanyu Niswade. Finally, on March 6, 2017 the centre approved the project.

GMCH has recently entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ali Yavar Jung Speech and Hearing Disability, working under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Initially, the NGO Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute of Medical Science and Human Resource had written to Gadkari regarding the need to start the facility free of cost at GMCH. On March 3, 2016, Gadkari forwarded the letter to social justice minister Thaawarchand Gehlot.
