Nagpur : Women's Education Society's Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture will be hosting an International Conference on "Paradox to Paradigm-Architecture in the age of Network Society" on 9th and 10th of March 2018 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Nagpur. The conference is to commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the college. Paradoxes and paradigm are seen in history when technologic, social, cultural changes affected the life and architecture immensely. Architects with their works transformed the paradoxes into paradigms which then became traditions. With the Information revolution and the rise of Network society, the architecture fraternity is again posed with many paradoxes about the building typologies, design process, materials, technology of designing and construction. Role of the architect is changing. To be aware of this change, to accept the change and to act on it, is the need of the hour. Objective of the conference is to make architecture fraternity aware of this changing role as to equip them to serve society better. 

A galaxy of international and national architects and academicians will address the conference. The Key Note speakers are Haig Beck and Jackie Cooper from Australia who are editors and publishers of architectural magazines and journals. They will speak on 'Back to Future'. The other Key Note speaker is James Law from Hong Kong who focuses on new age architecture through his firm. He will speak on `Cybertecture- A new architecture paradigm'. In the session on 'Historicity and Modernity: An emerging order in the age of network society', the lead speakers will be Ar.Narendra Dengle and Ar.Shirish Beri. Ar. Dengle is a well-known educator and writer while Ar.Beri's works have made a distinct mark on modern Indian architecture. 

In the session on 'Architecture as a social art in the age of network society, Ar.Shubhra Raje from USA will be one of the lead speakers. She runs an inter-disciplinary design and research practice. The other lead speaker will be Ar.Nela de Zoysa from Sri Lanka. She runs her own firm and is the winner of a number of awards in architecture. In the session on 'Computational Design Paradigm', the lead speaker will be Ar.Vishu Bhooshan from the United Kingdom. He works as a senior designer at Zaha Hadid Architects at London. On the second day of the conference, in the first session on 'Addressing Changing Cultural Contexts Architecture', the lead speaker is Ar.Sebastiano Brandolini from Italy. He runs an architectural studio in Milan and teaches Landscape architecture at ETH Zurich. The other lead speaker for the session will be Ar.Snehal Shah from Ahmedabad. A well-known architect, he has an ambitious repertory of private and public buildings. he next session on In t 'New Directions in Architecture Education and Professiowa n, t she specializesp in architectural design and landscape design for condominiums and is the recipient many Ar.Habeeb Khan is founder of the firm Smita and Habeeb Khan Architects. He also of is the awards. recipient of many awards. The session on 'New Technologies and Emerging Architecture —The Age of Network Society' will be addressed by Ar.Ben Nakamura from Japan and Ar. Sameep Padora from Mumbai. Ar.Nakamura is Professor Emeritus at Monotsukuri Institute of Technologists. He is a winner of as many as 35 awards. Ar. Padora is the founding principal of Sameep Padora and Associates. His firm has received numerous international awards. 

A panel discussion will be conducted by Prof.Kulbhushan Jain who is former coordinator, Doctoral Programs office at CEPT University, Ahmedabad with over 40 years of academic experience. Many papers from architect educators and practitioners have been received for the conference. A select number will present their papers during the sessions and all the papers will be published in the conference proceedings. A number of parallel activities are being conducted as part of the conference. They include poster competitions on the conference theme being conducted for students from colleges of architecture in and around the city. 

Hon'ble Mr.Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources will be the guest of honor at the valedictory function. The event is sponsored by JK Cement, Cera, Nagpur Metro, Jaguar, NITCO and Plasto. The knowledge partners are Council of Architecture(COA), R.T.M.Nagpur University, Maharashtra Association of Schools of Architecture (MASA), Indian Institute of Architects ( HA) and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). r.Sam Dpada Peshwe is the organizing secretary of the conference and Dr.Priya Choudhary is the joint organizing secretary. The entire staff of the college is working under the able guidance of Dr.Pa nna Akhani, Secretary and Director, Women's Education Society and Dr.Ujwala Chakradeo, principal of the college and organizing chairperson of the conference.
