Nagpur : Jigyasa, a student-scientist connect programme, has been initiated by CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) according to the recent MoU signed between  Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). CSIR-NEERI will implement this programme in all Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) of Vidarbha and the KVs located nearby its Zonal Centres in other states.   The focus is on connecting school students and scientists so as to extend student’s classroom learning with that of a very well planned research laboratory based learning.

Accordingly, CSIR-NEERI participated in the Cluster Level Social Science Exhibition-cum-National Integration Camp organized by Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ajni on 6-7 September, 2017. The students of 7 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) of Vidarbha – KV, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur; KV, Ambajhari, Nagpur; KV, CRPF, Nagpur; KV-WCL, Chandrapur; KV, New Majri; KV, Kamptee; and KV, Ordnance Factory, Bhandara participated in this event. A team of the CSIR-NEERI scientists led by Dr. J.S. Pandey, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEERI evaluated various projects (exhibits) displayed by the KV students on the themes: ‘Plastic-A New and Powerful Enemy of the Environment’, ‘Malnutrition’, ‘Globalization’ and  ‘Role of Women  in Freedom Struggle’.

The CSIR-NEERI scientists also guided and interacted with the KV students during the event. While evaluating the exhibits, Dr. J.S. Pandey called upon students to understand their responsibilities towards community.  This event provided a broad platform for the students to display their creativity, originality, artistic skills, etc. and a glimpse of the processes through which they learn and acquire knowledge.

The CSIR-NEERI scientists also addressed the students of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) to motivate them towards environmental science & engineering, and other science subjects on which Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is working. The KV students were apprised of major activities and achievements of various CSIR Institutes, including CSIR-NEERI. Mrs. K. Sujata, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ajni, Mr. Dinesh Chhapane, TGT (P&HE), Mr. A. Kumar, PGT Chemistry and teachers from all Kendriya Vidyalayas of Vidarbha were also present on this occasion.
