“The Chartered Accountants are known to be the true partners of the Income Tax Department and the department is incomplete without the active involvement of Chartered Accountants for smooth functioning of the departmental machinery”, commented Dr. P.S. Puniha, Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Vidharbha while addressing as the Chief Guest for Seminar on Finance Bill 2018 organised by Nagpur Branch of WIRC of ICAI on Wednesday.

While addressing the gathering of more than 350 Chartered Accountants Dr. Puniha said that the government acknowledges the role of Chartered Accountants who act as the first layer of the filter mechanism of the Income Tax Department through the Tax Audits & other compliances being undertaken by the profession. He further added CA’s are the Nations best financial brains and it is the duty of the CA’s to be updated about the changes happening consequent to the presentation of the Union Budget 2018. He also gave the departments prospective on the new Long Term Capital Gain Tax on Equity while supporting the government’s action through statistical figures and detailed reasoning behind such amendment. While addressing the gathering he also shared the worrisome figures of huge Litigation cases pending with respect to Direct Taxes which are proving to be a huge burden on the Income Tax Department. He acknowledged the rich history and great professionalism of the Institute and hoped that the Chartered Accountant members would play even more pivotal role in enforcing law and regulation in the coming days.

Earlier Newly elected Chairman of Nagpur Branch of ICAI, CA. Umang V Agrawal welcomed all the members present and said that the time has come for the Chartered Accountants to come together and unite with the goal of pursuing excellence in personal as well as professional lives. He commented that a Chartered Accountant is a respected person of the society and the duty lies with each member to ensure that the dignity of the profession is continued. He also thanked Dr. Puniha for the support extended by the Income Tax Department at Nagpur to the Chartered Accountant community. Nagpur Branch will continue to organise such type of seminars for the benefit of members at large.

CA. Abhijit Kelkar, RCM in his brief remarks, has congratulated the new team for organizing this budget seminar. He while terming the Budget to be a balanced budget appreciated that the government has taken care of various demands of the industry while undertaking steps to block the loopholes in the laws. He also congratulated the Nagpur Branch for the awards at the National & Regional levels and extended his full cooperation to the activities of Nagpur Branch.

In this program CA. Girish Ahuja from New Delhi deliberated on Direct Tax Proposals, CA. Vijai Mantri, Mumbai deliberated on Impact of Union Budget on Capital Market and CA. Dilip Phadke, Mumbai deliberated on Indirect Tax Proposals.
