Anna Hazare biopic titled Anna chronicles the journey of Kisan Baburao Hazare whose participation in the India Against Corruption Movement in 2011 paved the way for the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill, which seeks to create an independent body to investigate corruption. It also led to the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party. Surprisingly, as opposed to the hype around other recent biopics, director Shashank Udapurkar has failed to generate the right amount of pre-release buzz.

The storytelling is absolutely pathetic. While there are a lot of inspiring tales from Anna’s life, the treatment is unbelievably shallow. Despite being made with a lot of honesty, the presentation is a bit out-dated. The screenplay is not linear as incidents are repetitive in the second half. In an attempt to cover all important moments from Anna Hazare's life and wrap the film in two hours and thirty minutes, the director fails to establish any sort of emotional connect.

Shahshank Udapurkar not only directs the film but also acts as the lead Anna. He overacts in most scenes, especially the ones where he is seen giving speeches. He also turns into an action hero when he breaks down an alcohol factory in the village and it is practically impossible to bear that scene.

Tanisha Mukerji as a media reporter is another irritating aspect in the film. Her poor dialogue delivery is a huge setback for her character. Rajit Kapoor also has a cameo in the film as a media guy. Govind Namdeo is seen in a negative role which is extremely clichéd. All other supporting actors fumble in their roles. The point is drowned out by the soaring music, the amateurish handling of scenes and actors, and the insistence on treating the subject as nothing less than a saint.

2 hours 22 minute long, the film drags awfully in the second half. In the final scene, Anna says “Ab hume sona nai hai” but very truly, after watching the film, I expect the audience to go like ‘Ab hume sona hai!”.
